Announce your event with an invitation that will inspire!

Did you know, that before printing was invented, the Town Crier would walk the streets and announce the news of the day, including news about a wedding! Luckily, you don’t have to do that... But you can still announce your wedding or other big event with style, class and inspiration.
You see, when you send wedding invitations or party invitations, you’re not just sending someone a piece of paper with event details on it.

Organising the wedding invitations or party invitations is when you get to set the mood and tone for the entire event, right from the beginning. By selecting the design, colours and look of the invitation, you can let your personality shine through. What’s more, at this stage of the preparations, it’s your opportunity to express how you feel about this momentous time in your life. Here at My Big Event, you’ll find an impressive range of high quality stationery, paper and accessories to do all that.

Wedding Invitation Etiquette

Timing

Traditionally, wedding invitations are sent out 2-3 months prior. However, if some of your guests are travelling from interstate or overseas, this time frame is often longer. If you don’t want to send out your wedding invitations too soon, a good idea is to send out Save the Date cards first.

Quantity

It is important to remember that, unlike many other aspects of your wedding preparations where quantities are based on the ‘number of heads’, when it comes to wedding invitations this isn’t the case. A good guide is to halve the number of guests and add 10-15%. For example, if you were expecting 80 guests, a wedding invitation order of 45-50 is likely to be correct.

RSVP Date

The RSVP date printed on your wedding invitations should be set at a minimum of two (2) weeks prior, or possibly longer if required by your reception venue. However, if you have a ‘B-List’ of guests you’d like to invite, it’s a good idea to set the RSVP date on the ‘A-List’ 4-6 weeks before your wedding. This way, you’ve got enough time to send out the second round of invitations.

Wishing Well Cards

These days, many couples prefer to receive a monetary gift, rather than 3 toasters, 4 dinner sets and a cupboard full of towels. To avoid this, simply add a Wishing Well Card inside the envelope, alongside your Wedding Invitation. The wording usually comprises of a cleverly crafted poem.

Maps/Directions

If the location of your wedding ceremony or reception is a little out of the way or you’d like to be 100% sure your guests know where to go, a Map or Directions card is nice to add. These details are printed on a separate card, usually smaller than your wedding invitation.

Following-up RSVPs

So you’ve taken the time to send your guests beautiful wedding invitations. You’ve included your contact details and an RSVP date. If after a week they still haven’t replied, the best thing to do is to phone them.
